The children found out about the names of different sports in French. They then used their prior knowledge of using J’aime and Je n’aime pas in sentences with the verbs jouer and faire. The learnt that it is rather tricky to remember that some sports use jouer – I like playing and others use faire – I like doing.
The topic this half term is, Vive le sport. The children will be learning the names of different sports and expressing opinions about those sports using, J’aime and Je n’aime pas. They will also be using the verbs jouer and faire, to play and to do respectively. They will practice using these verbs in sentences. They will also be writing their own sports diary, and making a poster about their favourite sports, which they will then present to the class
The children found out about how the French celebrate Easter. or Pâques. They then used a dictionary to translate Easter words to help them complete a word search.
During lockdown the children continued learning about numbers to 39 and revised colours. To finish off the Pocket money topic, they ordered a conversation one would have in a shop. The matched parts of the story of Sleeping Beauty and learnt the vocabulary related to the story.
Year 4 find out about all the euro notes and coins. They revised numbers to 39 and learnt how to use combien when asking how much a toy costs.
Year 4 revised numbers 1-20. Then learnt numbers from 21 to 39. They listened to and sang a numbers song. They were very good at guessing numbers that were mouthed to them. They then did a bit of maths, adding numbers in French and writing the correct sum.
Year 4 looked at a variety of foods and decided their opinion by showing thumbs up / or down and saying:J’aime, J’adore, Je deteste and Je n’aime pas. They then played a pass the parcel game, whilst listening to French Café music. When the music stopped, they chose a card, said what it was, with the class repeating it, then expressed an opinion. They were introduced to the word: maim(yum) and berk (yuck).
We started a new topic today, l’argent de poche – pocket money. The children discussed what they used pocket for -to buy toys . They learnt the vocabulary of a few toys and expressed whether they liked, loved, disliked and intensely disliked certain toys.
Year 4 played a game called Gendarmes, where 2 children went round the room asking the others if they had a particular piece of stationery. We then read a play script together. They practised saying their parts and then performed it with their group.
The children practised asking each other the above questions, passing each other the item of stationery, there were asked to pass to them. They used Voila and Merci as part of the conversation. They then wrote a few questions and answers.
