Lo: to use J’aime and Je n’aime pas to answer questions about different sports

Year 4 started a new topic, Vive le sport. They were introduced to sports vocabulary. They revised using J’aime and Je n’aime pas with different verbs from the back to school topic. They mimed the actions. They then used a sentence structure to ask each other: Do you like playing tennis? And other sports. Which they then answered. After practising asking and answering the questions, they then wrote them into their books.

LO: to use adjectives to describe a character

Year 4 revised numbers and practised the ‘r’ sound by playing Eeny meeny miny mo – Am stram gram. They then looked at different adjectives and focusing on the agreement with nouns and adjectives,they then used a sentence scaffold to write their own sentences.

LO: to revise colours

Year 4 revised numbers and colours. They enjoyed playing a French version of Eeny meeny, called Am stram gram, designed to practise the tricky ‘ r’ sound in French. They then had a go at writing colours from memory, many were surprised at how much they could remember and spell correctly. To consolidate their knowledge of colours, they completed a variety of activity sheets.

LO: I can revise numbers 1-39 and learn the multiples of 10

Year 4 practised saying and pronouncing numbers to 39. They sang the numbers song and learnt how to say the multiples of 10 in French. They then played a game where they had to listen to the multiple and tear off the number if they had written it on a strip of paper. After that the completed a number activity sheet.

LO: to memorise a short text and match pictures with words to tell a story

Year 4 have been learning about Sleeping Beauty in French. They reread the main parts of the fairytale, practising their pronunciation. They then chose a sentence to memorise and practised it with their partner. After that they used pictures and words in French and English to sequence the story.

LO: to learn the names of the main characters in a fairy tale

Year 4 started a new topic: Raconte-moi une histoire – Tell me a story. THey atcged an animated version of the fairytale in French and were able to identify the names of the main characters, as they are similar to English. They then wrote the names of the characters next to thwe corresponding pictures

Year 4 revised all the vocabulary that they had learnt in this topic, including numbers to 39. They learnt Je voudrais and practised saying that, adding in a different toy each time. They then practised a conversation with their partner. They pretended that they were going shopping and used all the language leant in the topic to purchase a toy, including greetings, asking how much something costs and saying what they would like. They then ordered the conversation in their books.

LO: to find out about Christmas traditions in France

Year 4 were introduced to French Christmas vocabulary. They listened to and watched an animated story about Rudolph and his journey to the North Pole to help Santa. The children were asked to recognise vocabulary that they had just learnt and any previous vocabulary that they recognised, including words that are very similar to the English word. They then coloured in a Joyeux Noel bookmark

LO: I can use my knowledge of numbers with combien

Year 4 practised numbers from 1to 39. They then found out about the euro and looked at the different forms of the currency. They learnt to use combien- how much? They practised using combien by asking how much a toy cost and then used c’est and the price using the euro. They then wrote a few sentences using a sentence structure.

LO: to recognise and say numbers from 1-39

Year 4 recapped the numbers they already knew: 1-20. They then learnt numbers 1-39 and practised saying them and singing a song. They then completed a grid by adding two numbers to make a third, writnig them in French.
