All about temperature
Year 4 practised numbers up to 40. They then learnt how to say the temperature using the French word for degrees and for minus temperatures. They then looked at a map of France, reading and then writing some sentences stating what the weather was like and what the temperature was using a given sentence structure.
Weather poem
Year 4 practised miming the different types of weather and learnt a weather song.. They completed a sheet labelling the different types of weather. They then looked at rhyming words and silent letters. The children had to recognise sounds that rhymed in order to write their own weather poem.
Quel temps fait-il?
Year 4 learnt the vocabulary associated with answering the question: what is the weather today? They practised the sentences whilst miming actions. They then matched pictures to the sentences. They also wrote some sentences using a given sentence structure about what the weather was like in different cities in France.
Comparing sports diaries
Year 4 revised the days of the week and sports. They played a spelling game, day of the week ping pong and a read my lips game to practise their pronunciation. They then compared their sports diaries with a partner by asking hen which sport they played on a particular day.
Writing a sports diary
Year 4 revised the different sports vocabulary and sentence structures. They then revised the days of the week, through song and an online crossword. They then used a template and help mat to write their own sports diary. A very busy week for most children!
Expressing opinion about sports
Year 4 revised the vocabulary for expressing opinion. They used: J’aime, Je n’aime pas, J’adore and Je deteste to express their opinions of different sports both verbally and written.









Using Je fais and Je joue to write sentences
Year 4 revised sporting vocabulary,sang a song called: J’aime le sport!They then played guess the sport behind a picture of the French flag using the sentence structure, Je fais or Je joue, where appropriate. They then used a sentence scaffold to write their own sentences.
Numbers day in French
The children revised the numbers taught previously,then learnt the remainder of numbers to 100. They sang a song to practise their numbers, did a short quiz then learnt some maths vocabulary in French before using their knowledge of numbers to practise their timestables.
Using de la and du
The children did a little more work with using the verbs jouer and faire, but this time, they focused on when to use du before the sport name and when to use de la.
